Ingredients

4tsp Ghee 2 tsp for roasting makhana, 2 tsp for dates)
40gm Makhana
1/4 cup Cashews
1/4 cup Sunflower seeds
1/4 cup Pumpkin seeds
2 tbsp Sesame seeds
1/4 cup Dry grated coconut (vati coconut)
2tbsp Poppy seeds (khas khas)
12-15 (or to taste) Dates
1/2 tsp Elaichi (cardamom) powder
1/4 tsp Nutmeg powder (jaifal)

Steps

Done

In 2 tsp Ghee, roast 40 gm Makhana.

Remove from the pan and keep aside.

Dry roast 1/4 cup cashew, 1/4 cup sunflower seeds and 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds.

Roast for 5 minutes on slow flame and then add 2 tbs sesame seeds, 1/4 cup dry grated coconut (vati coconut) and 2 tbs khas khas (poppy seeds).

Dry roast everything for more 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.

Once both Makhana and Seeds mix has cooled down, coarsely grind it in a mixer jar. (Don’t make fine powder).

Next in a pan, heat 2 tsp ghee and add 12-15 dates (you may increase or decrease quantity of dates per your taste)

Cook dates on slow to medium flame till they become sof

Add these dates into coarsely grinded mixture.

For the flavor add 1/2 tsp elaichi powder and 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder (jaifal).

Mix everything well and make Modak. Make sure you have greased the mould with ghee first. Healthy no sugar makhana seeds modak are ready. These will stay good outside for one week easily.
