Ingredients

1 cup soaked moong dal (soaked for 2-3 hours) For Dal:
1/2 cup water
Salt to taste
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp roasted cumin (jeera) powder For Special Masala:
1 tsp dry mango (amchur) powder
1 tsp chaat masala
1/2 tsp crushed black pepper
Salt to taste
Chopped onions For Toppings:
Chopped tomatoes
Finely chopped green chillies
Imli (tamarind) ki meethi chutney
Coriander tikhi chutney
Crushed papdi (for crunch)
Fresh coriander leaves
Pomegranate seeds
Fresh lemon juice

Dal Moradabadi Chaat is a flavorful North Indian snack made with moong dal, seasoned with spices, and garnished with tangy toppings. Cooked moong dal is mashed and topped with green chutney, tamarind chutney, chopped onions, tomatoes, and a squeeze of lemon. Roasted cumin, chaat masala, and red chilli powder add a burst of flavor. This healthy, protein-rich chaat is served warm and is both comforting and delicious. It’s a popular street food from Moradabad, known for its simple yet satisfying taste.

In a pressure cooker, add 1 cup soaked moong dal, ½ cup water, salt, turmeric powder, and butter. Pressure cook for 3 whistles. Once cooked, stir the dal until it becomes smooth.

In a small bowl, prepare the special masala by mixing roasted cumin powder, dry mango powder, chaat masala, black pepper, and salt.

To plate the chaat, layer the hot dal on a plate and add a bit of butter on top. Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies, imli ki meethi chutney, coriander chutney, and crushed papdi for crunch.
