About
Akki rotti is a traditional and popular South Indian flatbread made from rice flour. It originated in Karnataka, a state in southern India, and is a staple dish in Kannadiga cuisine. This gluten-free dish is typically enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack but can be served at any time of the day.
Akki rotti is often served hot with various accompaniments such as chutney, coconut chutney, sambar, or a dollop of ghee.
Steps
1
Done
|
In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, finely chopped onion, coriander, ginger, green chilies, curry leaves, cumin seeds, grated coconut, and salt. Mix everything well together. |
2
Done
|
Gradually add a little water to the mixture and knead it into a soft dough. If the dough sticks to your hands, apply some oil to prevent sticking. |
3
Done
|
Take a dough ball and place it on a plastic bag or parchment paper. Flatten it with your hands to form a round disc, about 1/4 inch thick. |
4
Done
|
Heat a pan or skillet over medium heat. Brush some oil on the heated pan. |
5
Done
|
Carefully transfer the flattened dough onto the hot pan. |
6
Done
|
Drizzle some oil around the edges of the roti and cook it on medium heat until the bottom side turns golden-brown. |
7
Done
|
Flip the roti to cook the other side. Drizzle some oil around the edges again and cook until it turns golden-brown and crispy. |
8
Done
|
Once both sides are cooked to perfection, remove the roti from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining dough. |
9

|
Serve the delicious Akki Roti warm with Tomato Cranberry Chutney or your favorite accompaniment. |
